Hair transplantation is performed by taking hair follicles from hairy areas which are resistant to baldness like leg, arm, nape and by transplanting them into areas where hair follicles are losing. The hair transplantation is performed with two technics called FUT and FUE. Today, FUE technic is most preferred method. By this technic, a natural look is achieved both while harvesting hair follicles and transplanting that follicles. The difference between these technics is the way of harvesting hair follicles. In FUT technic, hair follicles are harvested by means of lancet but in FUE technic lancet is not used. So, in this technic hair transplantation is performed without causing any pain and scar.
How is FUT technic performed ?
In this technic, a hairy skin section in width of 2 cm and in lenght of 15-20 cm is removed from back of the head (between the both ears). The hair follicles to be transplanted hairless area are obtained from pieces removed from this section. The area from which hairy section is removed is closed by stitching. If these processes are performed by plastic surgery specialists, the results become successful. The stitches are removed almost two weeks after the operation. But scar may occur in this area. Almost 4000 hair follicles can be obtained from hairy section removed by using this method. FUT technic is not suitable for those who use short hair and work in jobs that cause the scar to be visible. Some of these individuals are polices and soldiers.
How is FUE technic performed ?
The processes applied in this method can be classified under 4 phases.
First Phase: This phase is preparation for the hair transplantation. This phase continues almost for an hour.
Some process are applied like; taking the photos of the person to be applied hair transplantation, cutting hair shorter than 1 mm, narcotisation of the area from which hair follicles are harvested by local anesthesia.
Second Phase: In this phase, the hair follicles are harvested from donor site. This phase continues for almost 3 hours. The hair follicles are harvested from donor site at certain intervals without thinning hair. The hair follicles are harvested by using micro engines and manuel punches with 0,7 0r 0,8 mm tips. After hair follicles are harvested, they are kept in a special solution at temperature between +4 and +10.
Third Phase: In the FUE technic, the channels are opened in this phase. After the narcotisation of the area to be applied hair transplantation, special channel openners are used to open channels by considering the thickness and depth of the hair follicles. Opening channels is the most important phase of the hair transplantation process. If channels are opened in suitable direction and angle, a natural look can be achieved in hair transplantation. Otherwise a naturalness can not be obtained.
Forth Phase: In this phase, the hair follicles are placed into the channels and hair transplantation process is completed. This process continues for almost 3 hours. During this process short breaks can be allowed for patient to eat somethings and have a rest. After hair transplantation process is completed, the area from which hair follicles are harvested is covered with bandage. This bandage is removed a day after the process. If a mild pain occurs, antibitotic treatment is applied with pain killers against the risk of infection. The hair follicles get stronger within 7 days after the transplantation process. During this period, the crustings occured are cleaned by washing hair. During hair washing, palm and fingers should be used. The newly transplanted hair follicles grow for 2-3 weeks and then hair loss begins due to thinning of hair. The total growing of hair takes 6-8 months in front areas and 8-10 months at the top of the head. It should not be forgotten that centers that apply technics properly like www.estecenter.com/en shoul be preferred.
